All that glitters is not gold but it’s still pretty.

August 20, 2010

One thing I hated about moving to the city is the loss of the sight of the night sky. In the country in east Texas, the sky is like a bowl of diamonds at night. It’s an awesome sight to sit in my swing and take in the stars. In the city there is too much light and the sky is lost. Sigh. I was really upset about that until I took the dog for a night time walk along the edge of the golf course. It seems that fireflies like golf courses. We take walks through thousands of them. It isn’t the sky but all the little night beetles and their flashy tails have a certain beauty when you stand in their midst in the dark! This calls to mind Pa Ingalls’ (of Little House on the Prairie fame) advice that there is no great loss without some small gain.
