How thankful am I.

September 8, 2010

What do you do with a neighbor child who begs you to adopt them? He (used generically for the purpose of confidentiality) has a mom and a dad who live in separate houses. He would rather be here. He has no friends his own age. He is in special education in school. He is a sweet child. We can’t take him to raise. He visits several times each day after the school bus drops him off. Some days he demands affectio; on others he wants a listening ear, and sometimes he just wants something to eat or drink.
Who takes care of the world’s children? How do parents leave little latchkey children to their own devices until the workday is ended? I could never do that.
My heart goes out to those unattended little ones. There are cookies and milk here and a lot of hugs. I can be a listening ear but not an adoptive mother.

At least you can be a positive role model for him.
